Shamballa Jewels was founded in 2005 by brothers Mikkel and Mads Kornerup, who had a burning desire to revolutionize men’s jewelry. The brand’s identity is rooted in ancient Eastern philosophies and traditions as well as strong Nordic design, craft and business traditions.
The Star of Shamballa is a graphic version of a double Dorje - an ancient Buddhist symbol and artifact. According to myths and legendary tales, the Dorje is considered the ultimate tool that captures the highest source of energy: lightning. Legend has it that the stroke of lightning leaves humans in a sense of enlightenment - the ultimate sense. Once truly enlightened humans can detach themselves from love, food and even life itself.
Each piece of jewelry is crafted to evoke this same feeling and to remind its wearer of the connection to the Earth and between all beings. The company’s Star of Shamballa (SOS) insignia is not only featured on each piece - whether hidden or showcased as the centerpiece - but it is also the symbol of the company’s ethos: compassion. Informed by ancient Buddhist philosophies, the company’s focus on compassion spans from the treatment of its employees to the treatment of the environment. Each piece is handcrafted and hand-braided, championing incomparable craftsmanship.
"We exist to remind humans
to shine with love, joy, compassion and wisdom. Together we Shamballize." - Mads Kornerup, co-Founder
For Vogue Italia’s Protagonist initiative, Shamballa took its dedication to the environment one step further, recreating three of its original designs using recycled bio gold and conflict free diamonds. The designs blend years of inspired creation with silhouettes for the modern consumer.
