Indego Africa is an innovative nonprofit social enterprise & lifestyle brand that supports women in Rwanda and Ghana through economic empowerment and education. The company's goal is to break intergenerational cycles of poverty by providing female artisans with the tools and support to reclaim their own futures, flourish as independent businesswomen, and drive development in their communities. Indego Africa pools 100% of profits from sales, donations, and grant support to fund job skills training programs for its artisan partners in business management, technology, entrepreneurship, and English & Kinyarwanda literacy. Through these tailored education programs women develop the knowledge and skills to engage independently with global markets and grow their own businesses. Partnering with cooperatives of female artisans to address issues of access and opportunity, Indego Africa helps women generate income to support themselves and their families in the present, and provides them with training to build profitable and sustainable businesses for the future. Today, the company provides its artisan partners with two primary education programs: (1) basic business training taught onsite at its partner cooperatives; (2) advanced business education taught at its Leadership Academy in Kigali. The basic business training program features 25 dynamic lessons in topics such as organizational governance, bank account management, quality control, budgeting, production capacity, and key English vocabulary. Students in this program master basic business knowledge and skills which help them to better run their cooperatives. Upon completion of the program, students are also eligible to apply for the company's Leadership Academy, which was founded in October 2014 to provide free advanced business and leadership training for high-potential female entrepreneurs. Students use the lessons they learn to improve their cooperatives’ management and performance, launch new businesses, create employment opportunities for themselves and others, and drive sustainable development in their communities.
