Meet the Designer: Pili Restrepo

In a paragraph, can you tell us your brand’s unique story? Who are you, and what do you strive to do?

We are a small jewelry atelier based in New York City specialized in the use of mercury-free gold and post consumer precious stones.

How do your mission and values influence your designs? Why do you tackle specific issues using fashion as the vehicle, and why should others care about these issues?

The materials dictate the designs and we strongly believe in creating unique pieces using traceable materials.  How we express ourselves through what we wear nowadays should reflect our lifestyle and choices. We are in an age were we as the consumer hold the power to change the world and I want to be a part of that story. Culturally we have always had an impulse to adorn ourselves so why not do it as a statement of personality and character than a reflection of status?

Describe your brand in three words.

Practical, inspirational, ethically-made.

What does Fashionkind mean to you?

Fashionkind means a beautiful soul. A transparent ecosystem. A leader, a mentor, a friend. The next generation e-comm.

What has been your biggest success to date? What has been the biggest challenge/hurdle?

Being able to give back through the various non profits I work with like Pure Earth.

Feeling like I’m not doing enough for these organizations.

What’s next for your brand?

Two upcoming new collections and a lot of travel!

What’s one item in your closet that you couldn’t live without and why?

A white shirt.  I like versatility and classic elegance.

If you could have a dinner party and invite any three guests, who would they be and why?

David Bowie, Meryl Streep, Susan Sarandon.  It would be an epic dinner party!

What are you reading right now?

The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt, The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion, and Just Kids by Patti Smith.
